At the highest point of the park just past the Old Grand Gulf Cemetery stands the observation tower. From the top of the tower the muddy Mississippi River can be seen for miles, and with at little imagination, it's easy to visualize Grant's troops as they gathered to mount their assault on the Confederate Soldiers at Fort Cobun and Fort Wade. The stairs leading up the tower have guardrails, but anyone wishing to climb the tower is at their own risk.
